Jason Carney, Chief Information Officer at the Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®), has been honored as one of seven technology professionals in Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2023 CIO of the Year awards. The information technology executives and leaders in the Tampa Bay area were nominated for using innovative ways to create a competitive advantage, optimize business processes, enable company growth and impact their companies' bottom lines.
Carney has been the instrumental leader in building a proprietary platform that enables CCG to identify a collectible from among millions of possibilities in a near-instant using artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and advanced computer vision and image processing technologies. The resulting efficiency gains have enabled CCG to have the fastest processing times in the industry, which was achieved after eliminating a record backlog of more than 1 million collectibles. The trailblazing AI platform has enabled the company to scale to meet the rapidly growing demand for authentication and grading services amid a continued surge of interest in collectibles.
“It’s an exciting time to be CIO at a company like the Certified Collectibles Group that heavily invests in new and disruptive technologies,” Carney said. “I’m grateful both to be honored among the incredible candidates and for the dedication of my team.”
During the development of the AI platform, CCG was simultaneously migrating to a more modern, scalable enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, as well as updating its websites’ content management system, which required significant coordination and collaboration across the entire organization.
In addition to these massive projects, strengthening cybersecurity at multiple global locations was already underway, and CCG established new Project Management Office and data engineering teams under Carney’s leadership. He established strategies and technology roadmaps for each of these critical areas and leads monthly steering committee meetings to ensure appropriate communication, prioritization and execution of CCG’s digital transformation.
“This honor is a testament to Jason Carney’s leadership and the incredible work of our talented team,” said Steven Eichenbaum, CEO of CCG. “We have invested significantly in technologies and people that have helped CCG to remain at the cutting edge as the world’s leader in expert, impartial and value-adding services for collectibles.”
Carney is actively engaged in the local tech community through Tampa Bay Tech, Florida Technology Professionals and numerous other technology networking groups to stay abreast of local tech companies and trends. He and his team chose to engage local Tampa cybersecurity and data engineering firms throughout CCG’s technology transformation.
The Certified Collectibles Group is the world’s leading provider of expert, impartial and tech-enabled services that add value and liquidity to collectibles. Since 1987, the CCG companies have certified more than 75 million collectibles, including coins, banknotes, comic books, trading cards, sports cards and stamps.
